Abstract: |
Archaeological evaluations and excavations were undertaken on two sites adjacent to Montagu Road. The earliest feature was a large palaeochannel in the southwest corner of the site. Its upper fills of alluvial clay were associated with a few severely eroded sherds of Neolithic pottery and a few small nodules of burnt flint were found in association with this feature. Negative prehistoric features, comprising ditches and post holes, were located throughout the entire trench. A small quantity of pottery sherds assigned to the Neolithic period and struck and burnt flint assigned to the Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age were found in association with these features. Many of the finds seemed to have been residual, being swept from the land surface into the open negative features. [Au(abr)] |
