Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken on the site of the stables in advance of an undisclosed development. Investigations revealed that the area showed evidence of numerous phases of activity dating back to the late prehistoric period. Prehistoric activity was represented by a cursus, enclosure and numerous Bronze Age barrows that lay just to the north of the site. The medieval period was the main period of activity with the foundation of the village and the construction of a chapel and manor house. A new church was erected in the village in 1839. [AIP] |
