Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a residential development identified that a prehistoric worked flint tool and two refuse pits, containing a 3rd century AD coin and late 3rd to early 4th century AD pottery, had been recorded to the south-east of the site. The line of a Roman road passed over 1km to the west, but no further archaeological remains had been recorded in the vicinity of the site. It was concluded that basements and landscaping associated with previous development of the site would have had a significant and widespread impact on any underlying archaeological remains, and that no further archaeological work would be required.
