Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed that the southern part of the site was dominated by sediments that could be related to the South Fleet Road "elephant" excavation. Only one flint waste-flake was identified. The northern part of the site contained deposits sealing two mint condition hand axes laying flat, probably representing a sealed palaeo-landsurface. It was likely that the upper parts of the brickearth contained a horizon [and perhaps several] with sparsely scattered undisturbed remains, sometimes individual tools and sometimes clusters of tools and debitage. The central part of the site formed a transitional zone between the other two, displaying characteristics of both. [Au(abr)] |
