Abstract: |
An excavation was carried out in advance of the construction of a house within the medieval town of Thaxted. Five late medieval/Tudor features were revealed, comprising two post-holes, two ditched property boundaries and a large sub-rectangular cess pit. The pit and ditches contained pieces of worked bone and other finds, including a small number of tools, relating to the late medieval/early post-medieval cutlery industry for which the town had been renowned. A large assemblage of pottery and a jeton, which was possibly from France, were also recovered. [Au(adp)] |
