Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of the proposed site of a cinema was undertaken. Prehistoric and early medieval artefacts, the latter including an iron stirrup, had been recorded in the surrounding area. Roman settlement and a cemetery had been excavated. The site lay within the precincts of a nunnery, founded in the 12th century or earlier; it had later been occupied by walled gardens. It was concluded that an evaluation would be necessary. [AIP] |
