Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a trench for an electricity cable at a 13th century church. A field immediately to the north was thought to contain the remains of part of a medieval village. During the watching brief, a number of finds were identified within the spoil at the side of the trench, including both animal and human bone, post-medieval roof tile, flints, fragments of slate and modern ceramic drain pipe. A large quantity of lightweight concretious material was also recovered; this may have been of some antiquity, although the shapes of the pieces indicated that it may have been the capping of a pipe, perhaps a sewage pipe.
