Abstract: |
The watching brief was located in the village of Hartshill, close to the site of the medieval castle. The area stripped measured 7m by 10m. The topsoil contained a large quantity of bricks and some 19th century pottery. The foundations of a brick wall were noted. This corresponded to the west side of an outbuilding shown on the late 19th century and early 20th century OS maps, related to a terrace of houses on the street frontage. No archaeological features were observed and no finds associated with the medieval settlement were recovered. [Au(adp)] |
