Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a proposed development site in North Muskham identified that the village had Anglo-Saxon origins, and that the oldest standing building in the area, a church, contained 13th century fabric. A Neolithic axe had been found a short distance to the south, within the grounds of the now-demolished Muskham Grange, and a 14th century jug had been found during gravel extraction immediately to the east. A number of cropmarks had been recorded to the north, including one which represented a ditched lane or trackway, the line of which was projected to have run into the proposal area. It was suggested that the possible line of this feature within the site should be investigated by trial trenching. [AIP] |
