Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, consisting of the excavation of a single trial trench, was undertaken across the site prior to proposed development. The site was located in the heart of Harmondsorth, a village with known medieval origins. The trial trench revealed a sequence of a coarse natural gravel overlain by a gray clayey silt. A north-east to south-west aligned ditch cut the gravel and was sealed by the silt. Three post-medieval pits truncated the silt and were sealed by a band of topsoil. The sequence was capped by a brick surface no doubt associated with Moyson's Yard itself. [Au(abr)] |
