Abstract: |
The survey was carried out to assess the building remains and the surrounding landscape of the medieval manor house, dated to the late 13th to early 14th century. It was thought that the building formed the focus of a much wider medieval landscape. A church, chapel, several paddocks or closes representing medieval gardens and orchards, and fishponds were located within the manorial enclosure. The wider landscape incorporated a medieval deer park and natural harbour, access to which would have been controlled by the manor. [Au(abr)] |
