Abstract: |
The assessment identified that the site could potentially be of industrial archaeological interest, having formerly contained the Halemoss Velvet Works, one of the few textile related mills in Altrincham. Use of the site for production of velvet had continued for less than twelve years, after which the works had been converted to a carriage works. Observations made during a watching brief on demolition at the site had suggested that building footings remained in situ. Examination of SMR and published data indicated that the proposal site and its immediate vicinity had been avoided by settlement until the recent past. [AIP] |
