Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the site of a disused hospital. Five trenches were excavated, and stake-holes were found which appeared to form two concentric rings around an area of burnt brickearth. These features were thought to be part of a superstructure surrounding an oven or hearth. Medieval and later pits were found, and medieval pottery was recovered. It was concluded that the remains formed the first archaeological evidence for the medieval village of Hoxton, so that excavation would be warranted should preservation in situ be impractical.[AIP] |
