Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment revealed that the proposed development area occupied a site that could claim a significant position in the overall history of the Isle of Wight. Archaeological investigation within the proposed development area may also have confirmed the presence of probable house platforms situated within the north-western area of the proposed development site, and any possible relation to sites within Chawton to adjoining fields. All of the assessed evidence suggested that the proposed development area may have been situated on, or adjacent to, various sites that were archaeologically important to the settlement history of the Northwood environs and the Isle of Wight.
