Abstract: |
The potential impact of the constuction of a tennis court was evaluated by way of an earthwork survey and trial trenching. Earthwork survey recorded a network of holloways and possible house platforms, principally across the southeastern margin of the site. A single machine-excavated trench located across part of the earthworks, revealed several archaeological features, including an intermittent linear depression in the soliflucted chalk natural, containing animal bone and fragments of Red Pennant sandstone. The report concluded that earthworks did extend across the site beneath recently dumped deposits and that they were accompanied by archaeological features representing medieval activity. [AIP] |
