Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a dwelling which lay within the old market place in the town of Rochford. Medieval remains had been excavated in the vicinity, whilst at the proposal site itself, blood gullies and drains relating to a small 18th century slaughterhouse had been recorded during the excavation of foundation trenches for a part of the present development. During the evaluation, a broad, deep ditch was recorded, the lower fill of which contained 18th-19th century pottery, suggesting a post-medieval or modern date for its backfilling. [AIP] |
