Abstract: |
Monitoring of the groundworks revealed traces of the use of the site as an airfield during the Second World War, as well as subsequent demolition debris. Concrete foundations for the steel framed building did not penetrate the ground to a sufficient depth to identify further archaeological deposits. Fragments of unstratified late 16th/17th century Rydale ware pottery and 19th century clay tobacco pipe were recovered during the site strip. [Au(abr)] |
