Abstract: |
<summary>Open-area excavation was undertaken on this site further to findings and recommendations of an evaluation. The excavations revealed a large building constructed with massive timber posts, which is almost certainly the hall rebuilt in 1567. Nearby, a massive network of channels and "tanks" probably represents a complex of fishponds. Finds from this complex included preserved waterlogged timber from earlier buildings in the vicinity, which may derive from the documented medieval hall which once stood in the area. Infilling of the ponds began during the 16th century. The pottery assemblage represents a large and important group of 16th and 17th century material. {italon}Sec(abr)(20b){italoff} |
