Abstract: |
<summary>Excavations in advance of a new gas pipeline provided a section through the enclosure ditches and platform of a medieval moated site on the eastern side of the village of Habrough. The moat platform was found to be artificial; 10th century pottery was found sealed beneath this structure. The enclosure ditches had been water-filled, but had been kept clean by regular scouring until the later 16th century. Three 16th century roof-tile kilns were identified at the southern end of the moat with associated clay extraction pits excavated into the moat platform. During the 17th century the site was abandoned and the former moat ditches and clay pits infilled with domestic rubbish and waste from the kilns. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
