Abstract: |
Very little archaeological work had been undertaken in Ilfracombe and thus the survival, nature and depth of likely archaeological deposits within the town centre were not known. Several Listed Buildings were present within the development area, the development of these properties could not be traced back prior to the 17th century, however, the layout of regular burgage plots suggested that the High Street frontage at least was developed at some time during the medieval period. Also, the High Street structures may hhave retained elements of earlier structures. [AIP] |
