Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken prior to the proposed construction of a 400 MWE Power Station. The remains visible on the site related to the former post-war power station, and the (probable) 19th-century embankment. However, the principal archaeological interest lay in the recognised potential for retrieving organic and other materials from estuarine/marsh deposits lying beneath these remains. Based on current knowledge of the estuary, deposits could have been anticipated from the Mesolithic to the post-medieval periods. The analysis of any preserved palaeoenvironmental remains could have provided useful information on past land use and the changing environment and form of the estuary. [Au(adp)] |
