Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed that most of the area did not contain significant archaeological remains. Two trenches on the north side of the site contained features with Late Iron Age/early Roman pottery, which may have been associated with an early Roman enclosure previously recorded to the north. Traces of ridge and furrow across the site suggested that it was under cultivation at least by the later medieval/post-medieval period and two of the surviving hedgerows on the site probably belonged to this pre-enclosure field system. Other hedgerows were set out when the land was enclosed in 1726. [Au] |
