Abstract: |
A desk-based study of a proposed redevelopment site was undertaken. Remains of the 16th century Bridewell Palace had previously been excavated on part of the site, and evidence of medieval land reclamation had been noted. The site lay in an area which had been the Roman and Early Saxon River Thames foreshore, and it was anticipated that organic artefacts such as the remains of boats and trading products would have been preserved. It was concluded that an archaeological evaluation and possible excavation would be required, and that a watching brief should take place during engineering works in the surrounding roads. [AIP] |
