Abstract: |
A desk-based study supported by fieldwalking on land proposed for an agricultural distribution centre on the north-west side of the village of Swineshead, identified that the archaeological potential of the site was moderate/low, despite the relative proximity of cropmark sites and surface artefact scatters documented on the County Sites and Monuments Record. Fieldwalking recovered a relatively small quantity of material indicating that either the site contained few or no buried archaeological remains, or that such remains if present lay beneath the modern plough penetration depths, possibly beneath the primary impact levels associated with the proposed development.
