Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was maintained during the re-excavation of cable trenches laid within lawn between the prison and court buildings. The works were being undertaken as a condition of Class V of the Ancient Monuments (Class Consents) Order 1981 (amender 1984), being "Works which are essential for the purpose of health and safety". The watching brief only uncovered a previously excavated trench, although it was noted that the main part of the lawn area had bot been previously disturbed and therefore potentilly retained features which would require preservation and recording should they be disturbed.
