Abstract: |
The fabric of a late Georgian house was recorded prior to the demolition of its service wing. The house was a roofless shell, located on the site of an Augustinian Priory. Details of the former windows and doorways were recorded, and it was noted that although the wing had been stripped, some internal features remained in vestigial form. These included boarded wooden floors, service bell fittings and wall coverings of plaster and distemper. Stratigraphic evidence indicated that the service wing was of one build with later alterations, and that it was contemporary with the final phase of the main house. It was noted that the wing seemed to have been isolated as a separate unit following extensive fire damage to the house, and that it may have been used for agricultural purposes. [Au(abr)] |
