Abstract: |
Monitoring of the foundation trench for a new porch at the present house, a Grade I listed building and moated site, revealed very little of archaeological interest. A garden soil layer suggested this area of the site was used for post-medieval cultivation. Below this, a clay layer containing brick and peg tile fragments, indicated a major phase of construction or demolition, possibly the mid-16th century remodelling of the house. Archaeological layers were probably sealed below this layer. [Au(abr)] |
