Abstract: |
The field evaluation involved the use of a mechanical excavator to open 24 evaluation trenches. A relatively low density of features of archaeological interest were encountered, comprising a pit in Trench 5, a large pit (probably a tree-throw hole), three irregular features, two possible pits or ditch terminals. The probable tree-throw hole contained 106 sherds of early Neolithic pottery together with 40 fragments of struck flint, a single seed of carbonised grain, carbonised hazelnut shells, and a considerable quantity of charcoal. It was recommended that the remainder of the feature was excavated and that an area around the tree be excavated. [Au(abr)] |
