Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on a cropmark site proposed for development. The cropmark was found to be a multi-ditched enclosure with slight remains of one stone building at its centre. Dating evidence placed it into the medieval period. The archaeological investigation, combined with documentary evidence, suggested that the enclosure constituted the remains of the medieval manor known as Upper Court. Trenching to the north-west of the enclosure revealed a small Late Bronze Age ditch and a Saxon sunken-featured building, the latter being only the second example of its kind to be found in Thanet.
