Abstract: |
The archaeological investigation was undertaken as part of Scheduled Ancient Monument Consent for strengthening works to upgrade a bridge. The work indicated that the present Horsebridge was a post-medieval construction and that the parapet walls had been repaired or rebuilt on one or more occasions. The road level to the immediate south-east of the bridge had been raised some time after its construction, probably to lessen the hump in the bridge. No artefacts were recovered from which to date the construction or subsequent repairs to the bridge, although some indication of its origin was determined during the associated desk-based study.
