Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-top assessment in advance of a planning application for a housing development to the south-east of Brassey Road, noted that the land lay in an area of ancient landscape which was likely to have been utilised since the medieval period. Findspots of medieval metalwork were noted nearby. The more significant results were likely to be the finds of 'British' or Anglo-Saxon cremation vessels in the area of West Heath. The discovery of prehistoric flintwork in the vicinity was also considered noteworthy, particularly of Palaeolithic artefacts. In view of the finds it was recommended that further field assessment be undertaken in advance of development. [Au(abr)] |
