Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a cable trench within the precincts of Stratford Langthorne Abbey. A previous evaluation in the northern part of the site had revealed evidence of Iron Age and Roman occupation. No stratified evidence for monastic material was found, as the abbey buildings were sited 70m to the east of the cable trench. However, residual fragments of floor tile were present. A rubbish pit and a wall dating from 1600-1800 AD were recorded. Post-medieval pottery and other finds were also present. [AIP] |
