Abstract: |
Recording was undertaken during conservation works to Hardwick Old Hall. The two fireplaces in the kitchen were both recorded and during trenching operations for a new drainage channel at the south end of an outbuilding near the Old Hall, the footing of a substantial wall was revealed representing a probable boundary wall pre-dating the existing Hall. The excavation of a small hole for the post of a timber bannister within the service quarter was also observed and revealed a thick layer of mortar sealing a layer of coal fragments, which in turn overlay a deposit of sandstone fragments.
