Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation in 1999 had revealed traces of the fairground booths as well as two Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age ditches which probably formed part of a field system on the higher ground between the headwaters of the River Anton and the Pillhill Brook. A subsequent watching brief during construction of an access road exposed a Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age ditch, probably part of one of those recorded in the evaluation, and further insubstantial and damaged remains of the post-medieval fairground booths. The only archaeological feature recorded on the Kylmar site was a small, shallow hollow of possible late prehistoric date containing a small assemblage of struck flint. However, this lay outside of the area designated for the watching brief. [Au(abr)] |
