Abstract: |
The assessment concluded that there was unlikely to have been any surviving archaeological deposits or features beneath the present building, although there was the prospect of some survival around the northern, southern and western site perimeter outside of the current basement. This may have included part of the site of the north wall of St Mary Somerset, of which only the tower remained, the main part having been demolished in the 19th century. Post-medieval basements would however, have extensively disturbed these areas. [Au(abr)] |
