Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of a proposed development site identified that no significant development had taken place in the area prior to the end of the 18th century. Extensive tunnels, passages and caverns had been excavated at the site in the early 19th century by Joseph Williamson, who also built houses on the land. No definitive plan of the tunnels' layout existed, although known tunnels appeared to be restricted mainly to the northern part of the development area. Part of the site was occupied by the derelict but intact Liverpool Corporation stable yards. A survey of the stable buildings was recommended. [AIP] |
