Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken within the area of a large Roman settlement in Long Melford village. A Scheduled Ancient Monument (County No. 90) lay to the east. The main feature of the monument was a Roman building with tessellated floor. A single inhumation burial had also been found in a neighbouring plot. Roman pottery and tesserae were revealed as well as a large ditch which was identified as being a protective dyke on the edge of a flood plain. [AIP] |
