Abstract: |
Archaeological excavation of a drainage trench was carried out within a building plot where prior evaluation had found evidence for Neolithic/Bronze Age occupation, and scatters of medieval pottery sherds. A watching brief in 1997 had recorded evidence of medieval occupation. During the excavation, boundary ditches and gullies containing 13th century pottery and relic subsoils containing 10th-14th century pottery were revealed. A small number of prehistoric flint flakes were recovered and two probable pits or post holes were recorded. One was of possible post-medieval date, whilst the second was probably pre-medieval, and may have been prehistoric. [AIP] |
