Abstract: |
A fabric survey was carried out during the demolition of a late 19th century slipway at the naval dockyard. The survey revealed that the general arrangement and detailing were exactly as shown in the original engineers drawings. Insights were gained, however, into the constructional techniques, particularly with regard to the sheet piling and shuttering. Ironwork details were also noted which were not shown on the original drawings. The position and construction of the original fixed derrick bases and the foundations and track of a later dockside travelling crane were also noted. [Au] |
