Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment revealed that there were no known archaeological remains within the site itself and no earthworks or standing archaeological remains were visible on the site during the course of the site visit. The post-medieval and modern cartographic sources consistently recorded that the majority of the site remained part of an agricultural field until at least 1959 and likely remained so until the construction of the diary in the 1960s. A range of farm buildings or cowsheds were built in the north eastern corner of the site at some point before 1884 and a rectangular structure was constructed during the early 20th century. It was likely that the structures on the frontage were associated with bridge house and that the site formed part of a farmland estate associated with Bridge House. Borehole data indicated that the site had been truncated and no former land surfaces or subsoil horizons appeared to survive. [Au(adp)] |
