Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of the proposed line of a bypass identified that the route would pass within 300m of a moated manor house dating from c. 1330, which was both a Grade I Listed Building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The route began at the site of the now demolished White Hall, which dated from at least the 16th century. A small number of isolated prehistoric finds had been recorded in the vicinity. Field inspection identified ridge and furrow remnants, old field boundaries and marl pits in the area. It was recommended that sites of archaeological interest should be preserved in situ where possible, and that where damage could not be avoided, provision should be made for investigation and recording. More specific phases of work were recommended in an addendum to the main report. [Au(adp)] |
