Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a proposed development site identified that a small collection of Roman pottery associated with agricultural activity had previously been observed at the site itself. Archaeological remains recorded in the vicinity included burials and cremations relating to two Roman cemeteries, the shaft of an Anglo-Saxon cross and two medieval hospitals. Several Grade II Listed Buildings also lay in the area. It was noted that the proposed development would involve major ground disturbance. An evaluation involving geophysical survey and trial trenching was recommended. [AIP] |
