Abstract:
An evaluation trench was initially extended for excavation, but on the discovery of 16th century timber structures was extended further. Natural alluvial deposits, peat and the silting of ditch ditch were by by a later medieval ditch. A 16th century revetment of timber boards and wattle retained a baulk of material left after clearing part of the ditch. Bridges across the cleared parts of the ditch were found. Early 17th century dumped layers, a series of pits, post holes, and a probable tanning pit were found below a late 17th century brick and timber drains. [Au(abr)]
