Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was carried out in advance of removal of vegetation and demolition of archaeological features on the site of Himley Quarry prior to mineral extraction and reclamation. The assessment concerned Pit No. 18 of Shut End Colliery and comprised a site inspection and the excavation of the available documentary and cartographic evidence in order to determine the survival and significance of archaeological remains within the proposed site and to identify requirements for subsequent field survey and watching brief. It was found that a reduced programme of field survey would have to be undertaken, due to the low safety levels and poor accessibility of the site. [Au] |
