Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of an extension to a golf course identified that it lay close to two important settlement sites. A medieval farmstead site lay to the west, and the remains of a Roman settlement had been recorded to the east. Documentary evidence also suggested the existence of a medieval nucleated settlement at Stockwood. During a site visit, prehistoric worked flints were found within the proposal area. It was concluded that there was no substantial evidence that significant archaeological remains were preserved at the site, and that further investigation would not be necessary. [AIP] |
