Abstract:		 A desk-based assessment of a canal side site revealed the probability of archaeology of late prehistoric and Roman date extending from adjacent known sites. It also demonstrated that the assessment site had been in continuous industrial use for the last two hundred years, and that this had caused serious disturbance to a large part of the site, rendering the preservation of archaeological features unlikely.
