Abstract: |
<summary>Following unauthorised damage to an extant Bronze Age barrow (Scheduled Ancient Monument, Wiltshire No 678), presumed to be the result of digging during badger-baiting, recording works were undertaken. Cleaning of loose material within a hollow revealed {italon}in situ{italoff} barrow mound material comprising interleaved layers of silt loam with varying quantities of chalk rubble inclusions below a humic, near chalk-free topsoil. Sherds of flint-gritted Bronze Age pottery, struck flint and cremated bone were recovered from the sieved residues of the disturbed material. Under a license issued under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, remedial works were undertaken. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
