Archaeological excavations were undertaken which proved that the site was located on the periphery of the town of Battle, on a medieval tenement fronting on to the High Street. The area of the assessment was at the very rear of a the tenement on land which had probably been used only as gardens or for rubbish dumping. Structures were therefore unlikely to have been present and there had been no build-up of stratigraphy. [Au] |
