Abstract: |
Three trenches were excavated to evaluate the archaeological implications on a site situated of Eastgate South proposed for development, which contained a goods shed and railway sidings dating from the end of the 19th century. The evaluation demonstrated the presence of a Roman occupation surface, a boundary ditch and assorted pits, surviving just beneath the modern make-up of the former railway goods yard. A number of early medieval pits were also identified representing 11th and 12th century activity on the Eastgate frontage. [Au(adp)] |
