Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring was undertaken on the ground works for the construction of an extension. A wall [0006] observed in the trench could have been of some antiquity but no accurate interpretation was possible owing to the paucity of dateable artefacts and the fact that only a small area was visible. Layer 0002, which could tentatively be dated to the 18th or 19th century at the earliest, seemed to seal the remains of [0006]. By that time, the wall appeared to have been largely destroyed, the surviving foundations re-used and again destroyed before the sealing layer had accumulated. A probable ditch had been cut by the wall but no dating evidence was found in the fill of this feature. [Au(adp)] |
